Cornelius “Dutch” Warmerdam, U.S. — Vaulting with a bamboo pole in 1945. Warmerdam had 43 vaults over 15 feet before anyone else cleared it once. His outdoor best of 15′ 7.75″ stood for 15 years before Bob Gutowlski broke the record with an aluminum pole in 1957, and his indoor record of 15′ 8.5″ stood for 16 years.
